Balikatan- Shoulder to Shoulder
Balikatan is a Tagalog word meaning “shoulder to shoulder” and is often used to represent the supportive relationship between the US and the Philippines. Balikatan operations have aided countless Filipinos during natural disasters and in times of need.
We love the concept of “shoulder to shoulder” and working together for the common good. There is excessive poverty in the Philippines, and we know that even small contributions could save a child’s life from starvation, or help educate and inspire a population with little resources. Manila Bean gives back a portion of our sales to charities and orphanages, and we enable Filipino artisans to continue their centuries old craft. The Philippines is rich with beautiful culture and we believe in preserving ancient traditions.
Manila Bean was founded by two sisters who have been best friends their whole lives. Kalista has lived in the Philippines for three years, and Akasha lives in Southern California. They unherited an appreciation for hand-crafted items from their talented parents, who taught them the priceless value of products made from the heart. Manila Bean is proud to bring you products that are all hand-crafted and one-of-a-kind. We strive to incorporate the native Filipino style with modern fashions that are all beautiful and unique.
